A thoughtfully appointed, compact Bolthole for two set in beautiful rural surroundings
Tan Bryn is a cosy, pint-sized holiday cottage for two, beautifully appointed and tucked away down a narrow winding country lane, 10 minutes drive away from Benllech on the island of Anglesey.
You will know you are on holiday as soon as you arrive and step out of your car – it’s wonderfully peaceful here. This rural and dog-friendly bolthole has been thoughtfully presented, making the very most of its compact size. Tan Bryn is annexed to the owners’ home Erw Newydd, a smallholding and home to chickens, ducks, dogs, cats, ponies and rare breed Ouessant sheep.
Pull into the drive and park up – Erw Newydd lies before you with Tan Bryn on the righthand side. A short flight of steps lead up to the front door.
Step inside to a light and airy living room. White kitchen cabinets with grey speckled worktops and a traditional butler’s sink under a window with pretty garden views give you space to prepare simple meals. An induction hob for two pans and a combination single oven offer plenty of possibilities; the stovetop coffee maker is ideal for those who enjoy a caffeine fix. The round table for two is perfect for leisurely breakfasts and cosy evening suppers. Relax on the sofa with a book in front of the wood-burning stove or sit back and watch a film on the smart TV. Welsh blankets, original artwork and crafts, much from local artists, warm rugs and flowers from the garden all combine to create a wonderful space within which you can simply switch off.
Step up from the living room into the double bedroom. Again light, spacious and well designed. The brass double bedstead is topped with a Welsh blanket and has a lovely view out into the garden. There’s a gorgeous curved wooden chest of drawers and matching bedside cabinets giving you space to unpack and settle in. Again, the colourful Welsh art is a delight to see.
Down four thickly carpeted steps into the shower room – there is a handrail to guide you down. Wash away the day in the well-sized shower before settling down for the evening.
Tan Bryn’s mature and colourful garden is enclosed; watch out for free-range chickens who may be pottering around! If you are bringing a four-legged friend, do bear in mind that Erw Newydd is home to a variety of animals so if yours likes to chase, then it must be kept on a lead.
Over the garden hedge are distant sea views over towards Traeth Bychan and Benllech, just a couple of miles away. Tan Bryn is well located for exploring the east coast of Anglesey and Lligwy beach with its quirky beach cafe, Moelfre, home to Ann’s Pantry, Traeth Bychan and Benllech are all within 20 minutes drive from the cottage. Amlwch, Beaumaris and Menai Bridge just a half-hour away. Spend hours on the Anglesey coastal path, build sandcastles on many of the sandy beaches or enjoy at one of the many local restaurants and cafes – the Ship Inn and the Old Boathouse Restaurant at Red Wharf Bay are local favourites of ours.
Erw Newydd is also home to Tan Goeden, a gorgeous shepherd’s hut for two, set in a self-contained orchard. There’s a duck pond to the front which is home to Pekin and Aylesbury ducks whilst Ouessant sheep graze in the orchard. Do take a look!
