A dog-friendly holiday cottage for four in Moelfre with an enclosed garden and sea views
Penrhos Cottage is Ideal for families and outdoorsy couples – or those after real adventures. The coastal paths radiate out from the doorstep and the shingle beach a short amble away.
This handsome fisherman’s terraced cottage is tucked away from the village of Moelfre and has sweeping views across the Moelfre RNLI Lifeboat Station to the sea. In winter, sit and watch the weather from windows with a view. In summer, relax in the sweet cottage garden or get out and about as there are heaps of things to do. Your pooch is a welcome guest too.
After the longest walk, there is a comfy sofa to collapse into and a big log fire with plenty of logs when you get back – the stone mantlepiece is a work of art. With oodles of interesting books and games to play and carefully thought out personal touches, Penrhos Cottage feels like a home from home. The kitchen is neat as a pin and has all the stuff you need, but if you fancy a night off there are plenty of easy options within walking distance. Eat at the Kinmel Arms or stroll a little further to The Coastal Café for the best take away fish and chips. Both are sure to please.
Up the steep stairs, the two bedrooms are small but perfect. Wake up and gaze out to sea with a morning cuppa from the double room. The bunk beds are great for children or adventurous older folk. The bathroom is simple and spotless.
Moelfre village is picturesque and an understated gem with a long maritime history. Visit the Seawatch Centre or the Lifeboat Station to understand this area’s incredible past. The Moelfre ice-cream parlour is the place to stop for a sneaky treat on the sheltered shingle bay in the village. Or linger for a super-indulgent feast at Ann’s Pantry which has the best cakes locally.
To the north is Ogof Arian a local old smuggler’s cave and you have such a choice of fine beaches spread in every direction – Traeth Bychan, Porth Yr Aber, Porth Helaeth and Traeth Lligwy. For a slice of history, there are 17 ancient monuments to visit – Din Lligwy and Lligwy burial chamber are the most famous and sit evocatively placed on the coast up the road.
Or, stay put and watch the sun setting with a glass of wine in hand and smiles aplenty.
